Willi Castro
Willi Castro Resting Friday
Fri, Jun 6, 2025, 5:14 PM
Castro isn't in the lineup for Friday's game against Toronto.
Analysis: Castro will get a chance to rest Friday after going 5-for-15 with two homers during the Twins' previous series against the Athletics. Kody Clemens will start at second base in his absence, and Harrison Bader, Byron Buxton and Matt Wallner will patrol the outfield.
Ryan Jeffers
Ryan Jeffers Idle Friday
Fri, Jun 6, 2025, 4:17 PM
Jeffers is not in the Twins' starting lineup against the Blue Jays on Friday.
Analysis: Jeffers will be in the dugout for Friday's weekend opener while Christian Vazquez serves behind home plate and bats ninth. Jeffers has gone 6-for-23 with four runs, one home run and two RBI over his last six games.
Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa Still out of lineup
Fri, Jun 6, 2025, 4:13 PM
Correa (back) is not in the Twins' starting lineup against the Blue Jays on Friday.
Analysis: Correa will miss a third consecutive game due to back tightness, but he could be available as a pinch hitter in Friday's series opener. Brooks Lee will start at shortstop and bat fifth.
Kody Funderburk
Kody Funderburk Sent to Triple-A
Fri, Jun 6, 2025, 11:31 AM
The Twins optioned Funderburk to Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.
Analysis: Funderburk made seven appearances during this big-league stint but posted a poor 9.00 ERA and a 4:4 K:BB over eight innings. His spot on the 26-man roster will go to Travis Adams, who can provide the Twins' pitching staff with more depth.
David Festa
David Festa Tagged for eight runs in loss
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 6:06 PM
Festa (0-1) took the loss Thursday against the A's, allowing eight runs on six hits and two walks over 3.2 innings. He struck out six.
Analysis: It was a rough day for Festa, who was recalled from Triple-A ahead of the game to make his first start with the Twins since April 23. The right-hander gave up four runs in the opening inning, with three coming on a Max Muncy homer, before Festa gave up three more runs on a pair of long balls in the third. The 25-year-old Festa sports a 5.40 ERA through four major-league starts (16.2 innings) this season with a 1.50 WHIP and 21:7 K:BB. Despite his struggles Thursday, Festa could get another look in Minnesota's rotation with Pablo Lopez (shoulder) expected to be sidelined for eight to 12 weeks.
Danny Coulombe
Danny Coulombe Beginning assignment Friday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 12:18 PM
Coulombe (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul on Friday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Coulombe has been on the shelf since mid-May due to a left forearm strain, though he appears to be nearing the final stretch of his recovery. He'll likely only need a few minor-league outings to build back up and could be back in action for Minnesota within the next week. Before hitting the IL, Coulombe had yet to allow a run on the season and turned in an 0.60 WHIP and 19:2 K:BB in 16.2 innings.
Royce Lewis
Royce Lewis Absent from Minnesota lineup
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:53 AM
Lewis is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Athletics.
Analysis: Lewis has logged consecutive games with a hit for the first time since May 18 and 19, but he will get a breather in Thursday's series finale. Willi Castro will start at third base and bat fifth as the Twins try to complete a four-game sweep.
David Festa
David Festa Promoted for Thursday's start
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:39 AM
The Twins recalled Festa from Triple-A St. Paul on Thursday.
Analysis: Festa will take the ball Thursday versus the Athletics and could be part of the Twins rotation on a long-term basis as a replacement for the injured Pablo Lopez (shoulder). The 25-year-old Festa holds a 1.38 ERA and 15:5 K:BB across 13 frames this season at the big-league level. He threw only 66 pitches in his last start at St. Paul in what was his second outing back from arm fatigue, so his workload will be relatively limited Thursday.
Pablo Lopez
Pablo Lopez Move to IL made official
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 11:36 AM
The Twins placed Lopez on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right teres major muscle strain.
Analysis: Lopez suffered the unfortunate injury during his start Tuesday against the Athletics. He is expected to be sidelined anywhere from eight to 12 weeks. David Festa has been recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to take Lopez's spot on the roster and in the Twins rotation.
Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa Set to remain out Thursday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 8:29 AM
Correa (back) confirmed after Wednesday's 6-1 win over the Athletics that he will remain out of the lineup for Thursday's series finale in Sacramento, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports. "We're taking the smart option of taking these two days [off] so I can go back home and play at home," Correa said, regarding his exclusion from the lineup Wednesday and Thursday. "I'm not going to be slipping at the plate."
Analysis: Correa was scratched from the starting nine ahead of Wednesday's contest due to back tightness, an issue that he said was causing him to slip in the batter's box recently. The veteran shortstop and the Twins both agreed it was in his best interest to get two days off to allow his back pain to subside, but the expectation is that he'll be back in the lineup Friday versus the Blue Jays. Brooks Lee got the start at shortstop in Correa's stead Wednesday and will likely fill in for Correa again Thursday.
David Festa
David Festa Starting for Twins on Thursday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 8:19 AM
The Twins are expected to recall Festa from Triple-A St. Paul to start Thursday's game against the Athletics, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Previous reports indicated Festa would join the big club for this weekend's series against Toronto as a replacement for Pablo Lopez (shoulder), but he will instead start Thursday while the rest of the rotation gets some extra rest. Festa missed a couple weeks of action in May with right arm fatigue, but he's yielded only one run with a 12:2 K:BB over 8.2 innings since returning. The righty holds a 1.38 ERA and 15:5 K:BB across 13 frames this season in the majors. With Lopez set to miss 8-to-12 weeks, Festa could remain in the Minnesota rotation indefinitely.
Harrison Bader
Harrison Bader Slugs sixth homer
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 2:07 AM
Bader went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 6-1 victory versus the Athletics on Wednesday.
Analysis: Bader belted a two-run blast in the fifth inning to give the Twins a 3-0 lead. The long ball was a much-needed big hit after the veteran outfielder entered Wednesday having gone 1-for-13 over his previous eight contests. Bader was sidelined for a few games during that span due to a finger injury, so his power display Wednesday was a welcome sign that suggests he's beyond the issue.
Ryan Jeffers
Ryan Jeffers Gets back in power column Wednesday
Thu, Jun 5, 2025, 2:02 AM
Jeffers went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run, an additional RBI and a walk in a 6-1 win against the Athletics on Wednesday.
Analysis: Jeffers entered play Wednesday with no homers over his previous 13 games and just one long ball across his past 23 contests. He busted out of the power drought with a solo shot to center field in the first inning and added a run-scoring single in the ninth. This was also the first multi-hit performance for Jeffers since May 17, a span of 14 games.
Pablo Lopez
Pablo Lopez Diagnosed with Grade 2 strain
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 10:35 PM
Lopez was diagnosed with a Grade 2 teres major strain in his right shoulder Wednesday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Lopez reported tightness in his right shoulder and requested to come out of the game after throwing a few warmup pitches prior to the sixth inning of Tuesday's contest. What originally began as tightness has now evolved into a relatively severe strain and will force the right-hander to miss roughly 8-12 weeks. That timeline will ensure he remains out until after the All-Star break, though he should still have a chance to return in time for the final month of the regular season. The Twins haven't yet announced a replacement for Lopez in their starting rotation, though David Festa figures to be a leading candidate to come up from Triple-A St. Paul.
Carlos Correa
Carlos Correa Scratched with back tightness
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 7:38 PM
Correa was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against the Athletics due to back tightness, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The severity of Correa's injury remains unknown, but it's apparently enough to warrant keeping him on the bench for Wednesday's contest. Brooks Lee will enter the starting nine in Correa's place, batting eighth while playing shortstop.
David Festa
David Festa Looks poised to start Sunday
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 1:38 PM
Festa has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday with Triple-A St. Paul and appears likely to enter the Twins' rotation Sunday against the Blue Jays in place of the injured Pablo Lopez (lat), Declan Goff of SKOR North reports.
Analysis: Lopez had to exit Tuesday's start against the Athletics with a right lat strain, and while he has not yet been officially placed on the 15-day injured list, the transaction is considered imminent. Festa missed some time at St. Paul in May with right arm fatigue, but he's looked strong in two starts since returning, allowing just one run with a 12:2 K:BB over 8.2 innings. The 25-year-old has also pitched well in three starts with the Twins this season, collecting a 1.38 ERA and 15:5 K:BB across 13 frames. Festa could be needed for multiple starts with the big club, pending the results of the tests on Lopez's lat.
Royce Lewis
Royce Lewis Ends 0-for-32 slump
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:44 AM
Lewis went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the A's. Lewis ended an 0-for-32 slump with his double.
Analysis: Lewis is hitting just .133/.207/.420 in 22 games since returning from a hamstring injury. While Lewis has been a bit unlucky with a .148 BABIP, he also struggled at the end of last season, hitting .181 with a .500 OPS in September. The Twins will hope his performance Tuesday finally gets him going at the plate.
Pablo Lopez
Pablo Lopez Likely headed to injured list
Wed, Jun 4, 2025, 8:40 AM
Lopez suffered a lat strain on the back of his pitching shoulder during Tuesday's 10-3 win over the Athletics and is likely to be placed on the injured list, the Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports. "It's not the greatest news to hear, to have to deal with, but if there's a silver lining it's that it wasn't that posterior cuff or that I didn't feel anything blowing up," Lopez said after the game.
Analysis: Lopez was removed in the sixth inning after feeling soreness in his shoulder after throwing warmup pitches. He was still able to come away with his fifth win of the season, giving up two earned runs on fur hits and three walks while striking out four over five frames. Lopez is set to undergo further testing Wednesday before the Twins confirm the diagnosis of a lat strain, but at least his initial outlook doesn't seem to be too ominous. Triple-A St. Paul starters David Festa and Simeon Woods Richardson would appear to be the leading candidates to enter the big-league rotation the next time Lopez's turn comes up.
Pablo Lopez
Pablo Lopez Pulled with injury
Tue, Jun 3, 2025, 11:02 PM
Lopez was removed from Tuesday's game against the Athletics due to right shoulder tightness, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Lopez took the mound in preparation to begin the sixth inning but motioned to come out of the game after throwing a few warmup pitches. It's unclear if his shoulder will force him to miss his next start, but the Twins should provide an update on his status in the near future. Before exiting, the 29-year-old had surrendered two earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four batters across five innings.
Matt Wallner
Matt Wallner Getting rest Tuesday
Tue, Jun 3, 2025, 5:34 PM
Wallner is not in the Twins' lineup Tuesday against the Athletics.
Analysis: Wallner has played in three games since returning from a hamstring injury Saturday, but he will get to rest Tuesday. He recorded a hit in each game, going 3-for-11 with a home run. With the 27-year-old on the bench, Willi Castro has the start in right field as Brooks Lee takes over for Castro at second base.
